Hidden lakes


Tucked away, but not so hidden that you cannot find them, they are well worth a visit.

Llyn Mair  4.3 miles (route map) This is a very tranquil lake, and a popular picnic spot. The Ffestiniog railway runs through the oak lined woods above the lake with the Tan-y-Bwich railway station within walking distance. The shape of the surrounding hills create an interesting echo.

Llyn Eiddew bach  11.3 miles (route mapThis is a beautiful tarn in the remote northern Rhinogs, with cliffs for jumping and fantastic views. To get there  from Maes-y-Neuadd house(LL47 6YA), off the B4573 to Harlech, turn right (by the "hotel 200 yards sign") up a narrow steep lane and continue for three quarters of a mile to the road end and parking. Follow the track three quarters of a mile, across a wall stile and after a further three quarters of a mile you will be at the lake

Llyn Elsi  16 miles (route map) Tucked away above Betws-y coed you'll find the lake which is in fact a reservoir. It is around 700ft up, so expect great views towards the Carneddau and Glyderau mountain ranges. To get there you can use one of a number of footpaths most of which start just behind St Marys church in the village.

Llyn Llywelyn  16.5 miles (route map) This is a great spot for peace and tranquillity, surrounded by all that nature can offer. The lake is in the middle of Beddgelert Forest, close to Rhyd Ddu train station on the welsh Highland railway. There is a 4 kilometre circular walk which starts from the car park and takes you up.

Llyn Cwm Bychan  18.1 miles (route map) can be found in the Rhinogydd mountains, an area which has been described as "Wales last true wilderness". This is a pretty lake where you can enjoy a short walk(or take your bike). The lakeside trail can be joined at the car park at the eastern end of the lake.

Llyn Geirionydd  20.2 miles (route mapThis is not really hidden but worth a visit. you can drive to the lake from either Trefriw of Llanrwst in the Conwy valley, or if you fancy a walk it features on the Trefriw Trails. This is the only lake in Snowdonia where power boats and water skiing are permitted.STARGAZING at the lake is amazing.

Waterfalls 

 Cynfal Falls 0.6 miles (route mapUnder the canopy of a Celtic rain forest on the outskirts of Llan Festiniog you will find the Cynfal falls. It lies in a lush beautiful ravine. On a sunny day its like stepping into another world. You can walk from the the Haybarn into Llan Ffestiniog to begin this walk, being just 0.6 miles away from the barn.

Conwy Falls 15.2 miles (route mapPlummeting 15 metres into a deep pool below, this is the last waterfall of the Afon Conwy river. Every autumn, salmon swim up this river with the help of a technical fish ladder. 

Shallow falls 16.5 miles (route map)One of Snowdonia's most renowned waterfalls. It is the highest continuous waterfall in Wales, and has become a familiar natural celebrity over the last 100 years, featuring on film, postcard and canvas.
